Canelo Alvarez Defeats William Scull, Becomes Undisputed in Lackluster Bout | FIGHT HIGHLIGHTS

Canelo Alvarez walked out of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, once again the undisputed super middleweight champion, but he did it in a fight that tested the patience of everyone watching.

Over twelve sluggish rounds, Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) did just enough to bank rounds against the elusive William Scull (23-1, 9 KOs), who spent most of the night circling the ring, flicking light jabs, and avoiding exchanges. The crowd at Boulevard Hall repeatedly called for action, but the bursts never came. When Alvarez pressed forward, he found some success to the body, yet never landed the kind of fight-changing shots fans have come to expect.

Rounds blended together in a pattern: Scull dancing away, Alvarez stalking, and neither man taking risks. Even Alvarez’s frustration showed late, tying up, throwing after the break, and trying to force Scull into a fight that never materialized. The final scores read 115-113, 116-112, and 119-109 for Alvarez, who reclaimed the IBF belt he lost outside the ring when stripped earlier this year.

After the final bell, Terence Crawford entered the ring, and Saudi adviser Turki Alalshikh officially announced that Alvarez and Crawford will meet on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

For now, Alvarez holds all four belts again, but this was a night more memorable for its lack of drama than for its punches landed. - 🄊
